So this morning I flew to Detroit at 6 am to buy this (hopefully) and drive it home. It all worked out - but lots of delays and now I’m fighting holiday traffic. Love the car though. 2014 Mercedes E550, CPO.

More later, I’m eating now for the first time today and need to get on the road again.

Nice, congrats! We had a ‘13 E550, you’ll love it! I particularly liked the massages and the pneumatic seat bolsters that hugged me in turns.

Yeah, the S600 was geared like that too. Depending on what happens with my S class, I might get a 2013 S63 with the biturbo 5.5 V8 which makes like 664 lb ft at stupid low rpm.

Hopefully you can get the S600 back on the road, but an S63 would certainly be a great plan B.

I drove an E63 while shopping for this - that was absurd. I was impressed that it was happy just cruising around town, as well was when you opened it up.

Driving back Friday, I found my self constantly giving the throttle a little push just to feel that torque surge. Acceleration from 80 to 100 happened very quickly - even while being gentle enough with the throttle that the car held 7th gear.

It’s ridiculous, and I love it.

I now have 2 cars (ignoring the truck) - one is at 4,000 rpm at 80 mph, the other is at 1,900 rpm at 80 mph.

Just saw your pictures - you must have had an awesome weekend! Very jealous - with a 2 year old now, and a wife who isn’t that enthused about camping, I haven’t had a chance to do a weekend like that in a long time. Fantastic pictures!

Yeah, I finally got the OK from the wife to get the car from out of town. Paid a premium, but was able to get the car looked over and have a warranty that lasts until the end of June 2021 (this car still has a month left on the original warranty).

Best part is that my wife drove it for the first time Saturday and told me that I did good - she was originally against a) buying used; b) getting a Mercedes (hard to explain, kinda boils down to her hating the MB-Tex in most MBs) and c) going out of town to get the car. But she’s sold now.

Admittedly the person I went with isn’t a fan of camping, but we used it as a means to an end. That end being the hike to Paulina peak, and maybe the hot springs. She calls it get camping tolerance training
